Stanhopea June Bride 'I Do'
This is one of Doug Pulley's hybrids that opened today.
It is ( panamensis X Assidensis ). The fragrance is similar to that of tigrina.

I've 2 stans and wonder if you've ever had blooms from the edge of the pot or simply underneath. Both seem to prefer seeing heaven rather than hell! Thanks

Awesome blossoms! Stanhopeas have captured my interest in the last 2 years - they are soo neat.
DeaC:
I have Stan. wardii which is sending spikes out from the sides of the pot and also from the top and over the rim. I can imagine them in nature....straddling a tree branch with the flower stems cascading over the sides and hanging down. What a sight that would be - pretty cool!

Most of the time (but not always), Stans bloom straight down. Bulbs at the edge of plant might bloom sideways, but bulbs not at the edge will have to send buds down. Grandiflora is an exception, that often sends buds sideways or slightly up.

There are many species you can grow in south Florida!!! What makes you think you can't grow Stans there?

Steve,
Before I purchase any orchid online I first check Isope website to get temperature ranges, if it don't say HOT I don't buy, and there are only a few that do. I looked up Doug Pulley's website and noticed that he says they can take up to 100 degrees so I emailed him to double check because if they can I will be buying more, if you can keep them alive in Austin then I should be able to do the same.

JDT,
Like Wikipedia, IOSPE is a great starting place when doing background checks on certain topics. However, its not good enough to make a final growing decision! Most of the Stans would do very well in Florida, with only a few exceptions. Some are more cold tolerant than others, which require a dry rest in winter. Nina Rach publishes the Stanhopea Pages and lives in Houston, where she throws her Stans beneath a tree for the summer. Go ahead and start accumulating Stans! They'll do quite well for you.
