Why are there so few Clowesia offered for sale? Warscrewitzii, rosea, Rebecca Northern, Grace Dunn are awesome plants. It seems like this would be a meicloner's gold mine.

Catasetum in general are hard to come by. You have really only a few choices for nurseries. I've been wanting more species and had to order from Brazil in order to get some! Most nurseries only have hybrids.

Its weird because Ctsm seem to be more popular now than they used to be so youd think more growers would start carrying them.

So far Ive only seen Rare Earth (who is impossible to order from these days) and SVO that carry quality ctsm.

It seems that the vast majority of SVO's offerings are seedlings of his crosses. I guess that is great if you're hoping to get an awarded plant but it's more likely it will not be an awarded plant. There are some great plants out there already that have already been awarded but extremely difficult to obtain.

Stephen Moffitt at Rare Earth is about to send out the summer availability listing to those on his list. Might be a good time to sign up......

Too bad everyone and their second cousin is also on that list . I woke up at 8am and everything was already sold the last time his list came out. Probably why I was never good at Black Friday deals, I just want to purchase something without wondering if someone beat me to it.

I started salivating yesterday.

So two nurseries doing Catasetinae. Stephen is propagating vegetatively. Fred by seed. How do we get the Hawaiian nurseries mericloning these things?

I believe H&R has three Cycnoches and one Catasetum seedling in their catalog.

Lol ok. I just wrote out a long, detailed reply to this topic and deleted it. It was a bit too verbose. I'll paraphrase...

I like having something one of a kind. I'll go with unbloomed seedlings over clones any day. Hybridizing is an art. Cloning is taking that art and replicating it for profit.

As far as availability goes, have you emailed Fred and asked him if he has any divisions to sell?

Clowesia is a unique group of species. It's not everyone's cup of tea. Growers breed and sell based on demand.

Also, eBay might have something to offer.

Finding the Rebecca Tyson Northen is difficult, but possible. Honestly, I've also wondered why finding this one is such a chore!

And I have to say, the offering of Catasetinae is WAAAAAYY better than it used to be!! Ten years ago you couldn't find a whole lot out there.

I'll be eagerly awaiting Stephen's next list as well. Don't forget these guys: Pine Ridge Orchids - Catasetinae
I haven't ordered anything from them before, but they seem to have a lot of Catasetinae.

Pine Ridge has closed. I heard they were still doing pick up orders at their greenhouse, but that was of last year.

Try Clown Alley as well
