Default First Catasetum Spike!

I just started keeping Cat hybrids last season, and this is the first spike I've gotten. The plant is a FDK 'Midnight Lace' obtained from SVO. Hopefully I don't screw it up:

Congrats! They are the most addicting genera I've come across. I collect them almost exclusively with Cattleya.

I have it potted in a 1 gal plastic nursery pot. The media is layered. Bottom is about an inch of stone for ballast. The next layer up is 4" or so of store bought composted manure, and the rest is Mosser Lee sphagnum. I normally use Better Gro, but since I repot these every year it seemed a waste of good moss, particularly since I get the Mosser Lee in bulk at wholesale cost. I put a bit of Osmocote pellets in the moss, and occasionally fertilize with liquid ferts at 1 tsp per gal. Since growth took off I try to keep the moss constantly moist. My plants are fully exposed and get unfiltered direct sunlight from sunrise until about 2 pm.

I've got only 2 Catasetinae right now and will likely repot them into more "poopy" mixtures next year. lol
