Default Ctsm Growth

This is my Ctsm. Bela Vista's Sangria 'Jamie's Purple Passion' HCC/AOS x Ctsm. pileatum v. imper. Third time blooming this season and yes female flowers again. I should really move it to see if the light has anything to do with it. Recently it put up this weir growth for the inflorescence. It's like a new stem but then the spike came out the top.
Has anyone seen this before? If I seperated it this winter would it send up a new growth?

I've never seen a spike coming out of the top of the plant!

As for getting male flowers, mature plants usually throw females with light playing only a small role. Chopping the plant up will most likely get you the desired males.

I have to say, your roots look VERY well grown! Can you describe how you're growing this one?

It's in sphagnum under about 50% shade outside. Water when ever it drys out. I use a weak fertirlizer every time I water.
