No flowers on Fdk. After Dark Male
Default No flowers on Fdk. After Dark

I have had an after dark for over a year and a half now. I bought it in bloom, and it has five full grown pbulbs. I was madly awaiting blooms last winter, up until the point I saw new growth which was pbulbs. Now I am feeling slighted! my most expensive and largest orchid refuses to be compliant on the blooming issue! Any ideas? From what I can see there was no reason why it should have not bloomed.

Most likely cause...not enough light. They require a LOT.

I grow them in a good deal more light than I grow the majority of my cattleyas. During the summer, I have them sitting in an area where they get nearly full sun which might be more than they "need" but I get good blooming on all of those that are mature. Really good blooming.

I agree with Katrina, lots of light but also lots of water and fertilizer during their growing season.

I grow mine in net baskets in sphag and tree fern sitting in a tray of water.
