Cycnoches warscewiczii
After seeing Katrina's post on her Catasetinae, I decided to try to give this group a try. It's the first winter dormant orchid I've got.
I have two questions:
1. It has two growths, one at the base which I presume will be a new pseudobulb and a second half way up the old pseudobulb, what will this be?
2. When should I start watering it?

Its likely that both growths will be new p-bulbs. Don't water until the new roots are about 3 inches long.

Well, this plant did not receive ideal conditions. It was on a table in a room with a small north facing window for most of the summer. It has unduly rewarded me with a spike. It is just developing a scent that I could only describe as solvent. Maybe that will change over the next few days.

Thanks Katrina, yes I think this could be another obsession, I need to look after it properly over winter and if it survives my long dark winter I'll definitely get some more. Any suggestions?

My great respect for growing this bulb into a healthy flowering plant. But it is not warscewiczii, it is Cycnoches lehmannii from western Ecuador and north of Peru (male flowers of course). You lucky bastard you!!

Really nice, maybe it likes the lower light levels.

Is there any cultural difference between this and warscewiczii? I was assuming a dry winter rest?

Thanks, now the pup has grown up a bit and stopped eating everything the plant should get some proper care. I felt bad not giving it sunshine, but it does seem quite happy

I like too many (and I have quite a few) to give suggestions. My favs being those in the mormodes and clowesia (esp the Cl!) groups but I like so many so I wouldn't even know where to begin.
