Catasetum tabulare
blooms have a peppermint scent and I can detect it even though I have a cold. There are 3 blooms.
They are also unusual. Remind me of that famous picture of Einstein giving the world a raspberry.

I've noticed this phenomenon before with my Ctsm Macroglossum, never with any hybrids.
I am not sure if this is triggered from the bloom dying ( most likely ) or the bloom being bumped. This had 3 blooms. I have found 2x pollinia - at a distance from the blooms themselves. Its almost as if they are 'sling-shotted' away from the dying blooms, in a last desperate attempt to find a female bloom to pollinate...
This pollinia ( in photo ) landed on a leaf underneath the bloom, about a foot diagonally across. Another landed on a leaf about 9in and slightly above the bloom. The third ? haven't seen that yet...

You'll see several species ejecting their pollinia when flower gets old. They can get some pretty good distance on them!

In bud again, 7 this year.
I have used one of those metal leaf 'gatherers' this year and kept the plant and spike more less upright. Its a 2-3 ft plant, huge and has grown the most in the last month. For most of Summer it grows very slowly, then wham....
