Default Cycnoches Swan Cascade

This plant may be mislabeled based on other photos that I've seen of Cyc. Swan Cascade (Cyc. cooperi x Cyc. Jean E. Monnier). In any case, the plant is a nice addition to my collection. I have the plant hanging in a 6-inch plastic basket with New Zealand Sphagnum Moss as the media.

Cool plant and flower. So...grown outside year round? I imagine that your growing environment/climate is fairly consistent year round?

Any cultural tips can you share, Mel?

I have Fredclarkeara After Dark, but it is not close to this well grown. Doesn't seem to getting larger, isn't getting smaller. At least it is growing, I can build on that!

Looks good Mel! You have female flowers, so this one might be correctly labeled after all. You'll only know for sure with male flowers!

It's beautiful either way. Trying to tell if you get a mislabeled seedling is always tough since you could have that one seedling that is different from all the others.

Thanks for the explanation Steve. Forgot that Cycnoches and Catasetums have female and male flowers.

Hi Dave. Yes, all my plants are grown outdoors. Our tropical climate is pretty much the same year round--maybe a little cooler and wetter during the winter months. My Catasetums and Cycnoches grow best hanging in baskets with New Zealand sphagnum moss as the media. I fertilize them weekly with foliar fertilizer. I had a Fredclarkeara After Dark blooming a couple of weeks ago. I posted some photos on this forum at this link: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...fter-dark.html

Beautiful flowers and pictures as always!!!

At first glance, I saw cooperi influence, which I love.
