Cycnoches Golden Showers
I got this at our Orchid Society auction about 2 weeks ago.
At the time I wondered why it was planted so high in the pot - and then found out that the reason is because the pbulb is extremely prone to rot.

heard of the expression "bull in a china shop?". I have a new one - "cat on a table full of orchids". My cat either was chased by an alley cat, or had a hissy fit on the table and knocked a couple of orchids over. Luckily not the Cycnoches - so I have moved it indoors. Hopefully the buds don't blast....

No cat here...it's usually my own clumsiness that ends up knocking plants over. Haven't broken a spike yet, but I know it is only a matter of time...seems to happen to everyone at least once. Glad to hear that this one is safe for now.
