Monn Millenium Magic Witchcraft skipped dormancy
Default Monn Millenium Magic Witchcraft skipped dormancy

I think this is my favourite of my orchids. I would love to get another monn. or catasetum. However, this one never went through dormancy. I got it as the blooms were fading in November 2013, and waited for it's dormancy to begin. I thought that the waning Canadian light in winter would be enough to start it, but I was wrong. By the time I clued in that I might want to force dormancy, it already had a large growth.

And so here we are! I am very excited for the blooms. The plant is extremely top heavy. I anchored the new growth to a stake, because I was sure it was going to snap at the base if I moved it too quickly. It endured a sunburn, but that seemed to make it grow even faster. The root system is the healthiest of any of my orchids.

I would recommend this orchid. I'm not sure if I should force dormancy in the fall? Or just let it do it's thing again, since it worked so well this time...

Lookin good!

I couldn't believe the buds on these. They start out almost white and gradually get darker as the spike elongates and the buds swell.
Love the smell on these too!

Make sure to post your pic when it does!!

Ps. for care instructions these are great!

Yes, they're so fun to watch

What is the scent like? The blooms were fading when I first got it in November, so I wasn't able to smell them.

I will definitely post pics, thanks for the info as well

Its a new hybrid so dormancy is short or skipped.... you gave your plant the right light and moisture to gather enough energy to produce fat buds and be able to form a wonderful display.

Great growing! Always follow the cues of the plant. If it goes dormant then respect that but if it skips dormancy jump for joy because you might get a few growths in a year!

If my memory serves me correctly, these have a smell somewhat reminiscent of eucalyptus but with something more added, not sure just what.

OH MY HECK!!!! I love it! I also like the way you have the bulb supported. I might steal that since mine is trying to escape too.

Orchids Limited has a write-up on these, claiming they do not need a dormancy and can flower 2x per year. Mine didn't go dormant, currently has a wonderful fan of leaves and I am hoping for spikes in Fall.....yours is magnificent.
