My poor after dark has been through the ringer and back but it shows how resilient these plants truly are. After being knocked out of its pot due to extremely high winds sent flying all over my yard several times. Being one of the only plants I had that did not get sick this year due to something that I am still not sure of. Surviving sun burn while still small from being flipped in my greenhouse over and over again its still thriving. Then after I went away for a weekend and accidentally left my green houses flap open it got chowed down on by grasshoppers! But is still doing amazing. I am not sure how but it seems happy.

Today I was doing a skewer check and ran across this little dude on the base. Seems to me he is the reason none of my guys have a gnat issue like my houseplants in my kitchen do at this point.

I did notice splitting at the base my guess this could be normal as the base gets and becomes fatter the older growths old leaves split allowing the base to expand?

Sorry just realised my goof and pics are upside down...
this last pic shows the mother plant (smaller growth) that just now is big enough to water vs. The bigger growth that broke off in one of its many spills that has been being watered for many months.

Thanks!! This spring/summer has been so hectic its unreal. I pray I get a bloom off of it this year just to see! This should have some reddish tones and white edges if my memory serves not a black version. So happy to see this one thriving somewhat post grasshopper invasion lol!

The grasshoppers are bothering my plants this year too. I have sprayed and it keeps everything else away, except for the grasshoppers!! I have a garden full of plants I don't care if the eat, but apparently they have expensive taste! Lol!

Exactly I have two that are drying/new growth growing outside they dont even touch them. They ATE MY DENDRO CANE IN HALF, effectivly killing it! But with the wildlife out here and my dog I am so afraid of using the strong stuff. So I battle with the organic stuff that smells so ungodly my eyelashes sizzle off. But by golly it works! Lol! Just wish I would have remembered pre bugageddon.

I don't know what it is, but I have a weed growing that is irresistible to grasshoppers. The leaves look like swiss cheese.I have several Cat hybrids right next to a small patch of it and the orchids haven't been touched.
