Stanhopea Mem. Paul Allen
Nice flowers with a reasonable scent as a bonus. 2nd spike coming far left, just under petal.

Moved for you.
I'm afraid I'm not a Stanhopea fan, but I do like the red spotting on these

Its one only its mother could love I suppose. Interesting though, the uniqueness of Orchids.

What a beauty! I'm trying my hand at these. At what size plant would you place them in those open baskets? And would spikes push thru if holes were about half the size? Thanks mate!

Love Stanhopeas, but the flowers are too short lived. But I still love them.

Beautiful!
I looove Stans! Don't have any tho . I have been thinking it may be time to give them a try - but the short lived blooms dampen my enthusiasm a bit ... Still, I keep thinking about it

I would suggest a plant of atleast 4 -5 bulbs from a seedling plant, about the same if a division. Some of the pieces I took off this plant I started in normal pots to get the root going, 2, I put into small wood baskets.
Both ways they did very well. Don't over pot or basket. Once they start growing you can move them up a size or two. Line baskets with moss, its easier for the spikes to push thru. You need to have 3/4 inch space to prevent spikes jamming & the wood thin, I use wire baskets & cut out some of the wires. Those I miss is where the spike will come for sure so I keep a good eye on it & cut the wires when the spike appears. Murphy's Law.
