It came from minnesota michigan area other end of the country from me. I got it in...april may? It started leaf dropping and yellowing mid way through the 2 spikes blooming cycle. I have followed your instructions for this one and its leaves have continued to drop and I am seeing the big growth and now two smaller ones along the lower end of the plant.

The first picture of your newest pics (both upside down!) is a spike.

I'm with Katrina on this, your plants should still be growing and barring this plant being from S America, there is something in your culture that is not quite right.

Hmmm...great another one, I am not sure if my allergies can handle that. I will move it back from the west facing bathroom window to back in front of my turtles tank where it was happiest.

Thanks both of you I will keep battling forward. @Katrina you talked about a time release feed which one do you recommend.

I like Dynamite Flowers and Vegetables - red bottle.

They have an orchid formula but I've never seen it locally and I can't find the label anywhere to see if it has micronutrients. It says "complete nutrition" but I've seen that on labels on other products and they didn't contain the micros.

The red bottle has all the micros as well as the macros... and it's about the only (easily obtained) time release granular that I've been able to find that does.

I usually get it at Lowe's or HD but I have ordered from Amazon in the off season.

For some reason my Lowe's doesn't carry this, but they do carry Osmocote. Do you have any thoughts on that? I have 5 plants in this alliance and I want to feed them properly while they are growing. Does the time release get mixed into the medium? They are all going to be repotted shortly because I just got them...I am just waiting for medium from repotme.com.

@Suzanne17 nine did not either I got the osmocote. I sprinkled mine in just a little over the tops of the plants media. The perks of living in podunk ville you sometimes gotta get a little creative.

And I got this stuff monday and so far no bad side effects like I saw when I burnt my plant using the bayer 3 in 1 when I got new plants.

I saw that within....2 or 3 days.

Just so we're all on the same page...I use the time released in conjunction w/my regular liquid application and I usually only use it in the Spring/when new growth begins. The goal being to "feed" as heavy as I can and push as much growth as possible during their active phase but to do it w/out creating a lot more work for myself. I just sprinkle it on the top of the pot. If I wasn't so lazy I could probably create the same results by doing a dilute fert every time I water this group but to do that would mean extra work for me. So...time released to my rescue.

I haven't used the Osmocote...at least not that I can recall. I like Dynamite because it contains the necessary micro-nutrients...not just the macros. If Osmocote has those too then I'm sure it's fine.

The other reason I like Dynamite is because of the 9 month release. Although I suspect it doesn't last quite 9 months because of the frequent watering and constantly moist conditions but it's most likely fairly close. W/the 4 month stuff I would have to remember to reapply half way through the season and I know me...that won't happen. Lazy AND forgetful.

FWIW - I would not use a time release fert going into the fall because you will soon want to start reducing the fert/water as they head into their dormancy period. The product feeds at a steady rate for 4 months...and w/the start time being late August it means extra fert into Dec...which is usually a time when these guys are starting to shut down. Many will have already dropped their leaves and gone dormant. Probably not the best time for extra fert. I don't know that it would hurt anything but I wouldn't do it. I would just do the regular fert and hold the time release until they break dormancy.

Thanks- that makes sense. I will just continue to dilute feed with the watering then.
