I lost 2 spikes on this plant due to crowding before I even noticed it was in spike. This is a string of 9 flowers and when I pulled it to bring it for display purposes...I noticed 4 more spikes emerging. They look like flying birds....and they smell delish...thanks for looking.

Nik, I'm terrible at describing smells...I would describe as a sweet spicy smell...like a cross vanilla & cinnamon...

Lol! I am not great at describing smells either, but your description sounds like a smell I would like very much.

Great job with getting so many spikes on your plant, Brenda. And the flowers of many gongoras do smell amazing. I can remember a number of years ago when Hoosier Orchid was still around, that they had a number of mature gongora specimens that produced dozens of spikes at a time. Although the individual blooms were small, the overpowering scent was enough to make me stand near them and just forget about everything else in the world for just a few minutes. Congratulations on your lovely flowers.

Steve
