Catasetum cernuum opened this year's flowering season, together with female Ctsm. xwendlingeri. I love these nearly black bat-shaped flowers.

Quite an unusual display of blooms. The spotted bats....the colors are so exotic.

Thanks for your encouraging comments. I am not content with the poor quality of my pics, but I am happy that the flowers are so black (which is more difficult to photograph).
The Ctsm. Nimrod also seems to produce female flowers. Provided that the pollen stays fertile, I will cross the mighty with the black to create my own "Dark Angel".
