Question cycnode 'golden shower' in spike care needs..

I just bought a cycnode golden shower in spike on ebay. I am super excited! Now the real question is how do I grow one of these and how do I keep from cooking the spike......like I accidentally did to my teneborosum spike....:

Pictures were provided from one of my favorite sellers.

I bought my Wine Delight about eighteen months ago so I am still learning. However, I am pretty certain that, since it is the beginning of the growing season, it will put out a new flush of growths when it is done blooming. Mine started growing early last year and by midsummer, I had new growths. In the fall, when they go dormant, you divide them into single growths and re-pot them in the spring. Pretty easy. Good luck!

Interesting do these take the same care requirements as my catasetums do basically. Let sleep no water etc in winter.

Now why do they get split when they go dormant? I thought that the extra back phulbs were for energy...

It is a little weird but everyone at my OS assured me that this is what you do with the cyncnodes. I bought my Wine Delight as a single growth and have seen them sold this way at the shows in the area. However, if someone tells you differently, remember, I am pretty new with these.
Yes, keep them absolutely dry during the winter (and warm). I lost one because I thought it needed a little water when it was shriveling. Not a great plan. :0

I am sorry to hear it. It is always disappointing to lose an orchid. In the case of these, I was new with them and I was a little confused. I am just happy it wasn't the Wine Delight. Cyncnodes are considered much easier than Catasetums so I think you will be fine.

All members in the catasetum group can be treated the same way I read.

I bought this one in bloom last fall.
You should water them during the winter rest. Let the pb be your guide.
Unlike one suggestion above, wrinkles on them are not good. It seems like many people take rest as bone dry but it is rarely the case for any plants.

Keep them dry but when you see pb showing wrinkles, water slightly depending on the potting mix. Just don't let it water so it stays wet too long, which till then bring issues.

Once you see new growth getting big, you can start watering normally.

I haven't tried the Ctsm group yet. A vendor from my OS suggested that I try a cyncnodes first as they are easier, more available and usually cheaper so I thought if I can get the culture right for these, I might get a Ctsm. Last year, I didn't give them enough fertilizer or water (I had no idea!) and didn't get blooms so this year, I am watering and fertilizing. I just moved them to full sun (it is very breezy and about seventy degrees so it is okay). It might be a year or two before I get a Ctsm. :|
