Default Canadian source for Monnierara

Just received this Monnierara Millenium Magic 'Witchcraft form Calvin Wong at Tropical Gardens Orchids in New Market Ontario although he is in the process of relocating to B.C.
Calvin was the only on line Canadian source we could find. He sent us pic of the plant we would receive just breaking dormancy and we got it in the mail from him in B.C here in Northern Ontario in 2 business days.
Calvin grows this in the recommended spag. and perilite but as we do not like spag. we are going to transplant it into either a medium orchiata, hydrocorn and lava rack mix or straight hydrocorn and maybe semi hydro, at least for the growing season.
Either way we plan on not filling the mix up to the new roots till they are 2" or so and then we will fill it up.
We are a little nervous about going with semi hydro due to the rot issues we have heard about this genus but if we start off by just watering, go to semi hydro when it's in full growth mode and then switch back to just watering when it's slowing down after the terminal leaf and the stopping watering for dormancy we think it should be OK.
Anyone out there who grows these have any opinions?

imo I think that you shouldn't take it out of sphag. These seem to love sphag and I have only ever seen them potted up in it. Mine is growing crazy ! I had to put it in a clay pot as it was keeling over.

They require lots of water and feed during the growing cycle which is about now.

But during dormancy, you will need to stop watering and just spray enough water to keep the plant hydrated.

If medium stays wet and cold along with lower light, chances of it developing basal rot is high.

Good Luck

Seems overly complicated to me. Why not just repot in your preferred media and leave it at that?

After re-reading the sticky at the top of this section we did just repot it into a medium bark mix as the AOS culture notes suggested. We have been growing for about 5 years now but this is our first of this kind and after reading everything we could ... well it gets hard to decide but as isurus suggested we went with what we would normally do. Instead of styro.at the bottom we added a layer of hydrocorn[adaptive repotting].If we have to water more often in the summer that's fine.
Here is a pic of the monneirara in it's new pot waiting for the weather to warm up up here so it and others can go out onto the balcony for the summer.
Thanks for everyones suggestions.
