This will be an ongoing thread. The first ctsms of the year are blooming! This is the first one of this cross that bloomed for me (and for the cross as far as I know). Also the only one I have that bloomed last year. The rest are a mystery still! With how much variation I've seen on the cross in pictures on the web, I feel I'll have an assorted bunch of beauties! With six of this cross in spike, most with two spikes, I just felt I should chronicle this.

Catasetum Dagny (pileatum v. imperiale 'SVO Blood Red' x Brent's Black Hawk 'SVO'). Named after my better half

Oh no I didn't mean to give the wrong impression. I didn't make the cross, it was an SVO purchase. I purchased a lot of seedlings from this cross because I was so partial to both parents.

I was very surprised when I sent Fred an email with my first bloom pic. I asked him what the hybrid name was because I wanted to know what to write on the tag. When he said "whatever you name it, you're the first to bloom it!" I was taken aback. I never thought I was great at growing catasetinae (and I still don't), I just got lucky.

There are a few pics of this cross on the web from all over the globe. The variation is astounding. I've seen purples, reds, browns, yellows, spots, blotches, solids, big lip, slender lip, you name it. And this is the only one I own I've actually bloomed, thus the ongoing thread. Many surprises to come in the next few weeks!

Oh, and to answer your question I haven't a clue from flask to bloom. I would imagine 3-5 years judging by the p-bulbs. From seed to bloom maybe 4-6 years.

And I've heard they're fairly trick from flask due to the rotting nature of this group. I've never tried my hand at one.

pollination to first bloom, fastest may take about three years (pod maturity ranges from 3 to 6 months for me, internet citation max 9 months). then about 8 months plus minus in the flask (depends how much protocorn you put in while doing replating, lesser protocorn, shorter flasking time due to faster growth). from deflasking to flowering, my fastest record is a year, some may take a year plus to two.
they are not very difficult to grow from flask, i use media P668 and they seems to be ok with it.

Thanks for the info Ian! I've always wanted to make my own cross, maybe sib cross this one, but I have yet to get a female flower. I have pollen on hand just in case.
