shriveled cycnodes
Hi. I will begin by saying I know that I'm in a predicament. I purchased a cycnodes wine delight late fall 2013, and it had arrived w/o leaves. Since I habitually overwater, I only watered once or twice. I ignored it till jan and only then realized it became a shriveled husk. I still didn't water because I read not to during dormancy. In the past month or so it has developed a 1/16" growth and a root is peeking. Now is there any chance on this planet that it will mature and possibly bloom? If not, what can I do to promote a new cane for next season? The 2013 cane is only 2" tall. HELP! Thanks

If it's actively growing it needs water, and if the pseudobulbs are badly shriveled it doesn't have much reserves. Water it.

No water yet, wait until the the new growth is a couple of inches tall.
Mine are currently at this stage and withholding water is the hardest thing to do.

Boggie, I can't tell how thick is still the old pseudobulb that starts new growth, but it does not look so bad. You did good not to water this and give it needed rest. Maybe your pseudobulb wasn't filled enough prior to winter rest, however they do shrivel like this during the winter time. I would probably still hold watering till new growth is bigger, at least some 3 inches, or has roots some 5 inches. If you will start watering now, you are risking killing new baby growth. If you decide to water, try to avoid any water on this new growth, and water only very lightly. I am attaching few pics of my different catasetum plants as they are potted some 3 weeks ago with new growths, some old pseudobulbs are shriveled like yours, but my new growths were already big enough to pot and start watering.

As the new growth looks good, I wouldn't worry too much. Good luck with it!

Sorry I can't help, not one I'm familiar with.
I've moved your post into the Catasetum & Stanhopea section, hopefully I've got that right, but it should be better than the 'About' section.

you can wait for the roots to be about three inches long before start watering. the old PB is not severely shriveled but i do think i am seeing some previous infection sign from the PB.
the old PB may rehydrate after the new growth develop sufficient rooting system. no worries

Many thanks catasetum-ian, I actually got all the catasetum family plants last year only, so this was first ever winter rest:-) They seem all perfectly fine and healthy!
