Default Cycnodes Jumbo Puff

Flowering for the first time for me, this is a hybrid of Cycnoches warscewiczii and Mormodes badium. The first (and bigger) spike, after fully opening its blooms last week, was quickly decimated when I knocked it against a chair while trying to position it to be photographed. So, after learning a not-so-fun lesson, I've been very careful with this second spike, which finally opened its last bud two days ago. Waxy flowers that have a nice spicy fragrance that's especially strong during the first few hours of daylight. The second photograph was taken with flash.

Thats a great looking flower!! Too bad about the other spike. I did the exact same thing last week with my nodosa that is in bloom.

I'm pretty sure this is also sold as Taiwan Gold 'Orchis'. Somebody told me that once, and the three I have left look exactly like yours. A super sweet Cycnodes. Gets pretty big though.

Thanks for the picture.

Thanks, everyone, for your compliments.

Rob, I have a Cycnodes Taiwan Gold that's also getting ready to flower (hopefully within the next week or two). I'll be interested to see if blooms from the two plants look alike. Hopefully there will at least be a tiny bit of variation (although I'm not counting on it). I'd hate to think I devoted lots of prime real estate to the same hybrid over the summer. And yes, I can attest to the plants themselves being quite large when they have leaves. It's amazing to look at them now while they're leafless and recall just how much space they required over the summer when they were covered with those huge leaves.

Nice pics! I had one of these for 2 years until I "loved it" to death. Before it passed, it had tripled in size from a thumb sized pbulb to one at least 10 inches long and had 2 long, graceful spikes loade with blooms. Gosh I miss that wierd artificial banana smell!

I have just bought a Cycnodes Taiwan Gold Orchid. Can you tell me anything about this plant? How do I look after it? It looks like a stump at the moment. When does it come to flower? Many thanks.
