So I got this orchid in spike last Fall and it flowered nicely for Halloween. I really enjoyed the flowers. Everyone at the show where I bought it went on about how after it dropped its leaves, I had to put it in drawer somewhere and wait till it started to grow again. Any deviation from this would mean certain rot and death. Well, it never lost its leaves until about 2 weeks ago. Actually, it went from lush tropical foliage to slightly yellowing like overnight. I took that to mean it was ready for bed so I clipped the failing leaves and put it to rest. I looked at it today to make sure nothing was eating it or anything and this is what I found. I guess it wasn't really into the resting thing. I hope it progresses normally from here. Anyone else with this experience?

That's not unusual....some have extremely short rest periods. Put it in a bright spot but don't resume watering until the roots are about 4'' and/or the growth is about that same height.

BTW - you don't have to put in a drawer...just no watering when dormant. They are very susceptible to rot during that time.

Looks like you're doing a great job w/it.

Mine did the same. flowered in the fall, ALL the leaves stay green up until two weeks ago, then boom! All turned yellow and fell off suddenly.

It is still sleeping with no signs of sprouting yet.

My cycnodes Golden Shower is growing tiny shoot, though. yay!!!!

I kept both of them in the sunny window the whole time.
