Default is my catasetum going to sleep?

Not sure what is going on w my catasetum I got it for Christmas and this growth should be growing quite happily for a while or so I thought.... instead of going to sleep again...

Heres a few pictures plant and of the growth as well.

The leaves are beginning to yellow as well. Maybe it was the shock of the trip here. Who knows...

My went to sleep, no water, but today I noticed that the bulbs are a little wrinkle, so I don't know what to do.

Well this one should be in grow mode not sleep mode. And I have 2 that have 1 inch growths but they have really nice roots that are starting tolook like they are pitting/possibly drying out....so now I am really confused...

Is the old pbulb ok? It looks somewhat blackish, but maybe it's just an effect of the photo...

Maybe. Catasetums prefer to go to rest after finishing the new bulb. So a picture showing the bulbs says more than showing the leaves from above.

Why do you think it should be in "grow mode"?

This growth that itbhas is not very old. Whenbi bought it online the pic. Showed a baby growth. And I got this instead. I asked her how old the growth was she said 4 or 5 months. So I thought it would contine to grow for a while b4 sleeping.

It doesn't matter what stage of growth it is in, when the leaves turn yellow you quit watering. I've had them start a new growth late in the season and they still went to sleep.

Yours is big enough it should produce a new pbulb next grow season but it might - or might not - be strong enough to produce a spike next season.

You cannot put this family on a schedule, they tell you what to do.

DITTO what Brooke said.

Orchids don't read the books so they don't always know what they are suppose to be doing and when they are suppose to be doing it. XD

Seriously though...once you've taken this group of plants through a couple of years you'll start to see patterns and some will be very reliable and you can plug them into a calendar but most will mix it up just a bit each year. The best thing you can do w/this group is learn to read the plant...it'll tell you what it's doing and what it wants.

BTW - I've had some produce small growths late in the season too but the plant goes dormant before they do much of anything.
