I have this kind of orchid plant ....it loses its leaves that signals its dry rest period....it has three old bulbs and two new bulbs and hopefully it flowers for me soon.
Found mostly in areas from Mexico to Peru. Chysis that grow under shady and damp conditions up to 1000 meters elevation.
These orchid plants should be grown under moderate lighting and intermediate temperature conditions, ideally this should be mounted due to their pendulous habit, though my plant adapts well to pot culture in my west facing window of my kitchen. I have this watered and fed heavily while they are in active growth in the warm months, though rather less once the growth season is completed. They should never be allowed to completely dry out (maintain it evenly moist), I give this rest period December 15th to February 15th = I hold water and fertilizer but I make sure that the pseudo bulbs should never shrivel and dry.

Many thanks Bud, will try this. The spring growth is nice and strong bulb but the neg growth is tiny, so not sure what this baby will do during the rest.

Thanks for posting a photo of a pure white Chysis bractescens (to spell it right). It is very unusual for this one to flower in October, the regular season is around May.
Even if Chysis are fond of higher humidity and lots of water when in growth, one must be careful with infected leaves as shown in this plant.
The suggested mix sounds good, hydroponics also work.

Thanks for the info. The plant has been neglected for many years. the roots most of the plant is sitting several inches above the rotted and dried out sphagnum. Since we are entering the dormant season, I'm just going to add some fresh sphagnum moss on the top, and leave it alone till new growth emerges in the springtime.
