My jenishana grows much better in bright indirect light. I have been giving it as much light as my aliceras. Oddly, I got a gongora (?quinquenervis) at the same time, and I was told that it would like the same conditions as the jenishana, but it seems dormant.

I also have my gongoras in very bright, cattleya type conditions and they too are growing like weeds. Mine have never shown any sign of dormancy though.

i just bought a nigroviolacea. it's tiny--supposedly 2 yrs from blooming does it still need to go in a basket? and is it one of those lots-of light or low light ones? and how sensitive IS it about humidity? granted, now it's getting warmer and will be humid in another month but still...
Also, any particular suggestions for stuff to put it into? (it just arrived, so it's sitting in "isolation" in the kitchen until i'm sure it won't give my other plants any nasties: i did see a black-colored fruit fly (i didn't even know they could be black) come out of the newspaper it was wrapped in. Only one though. so far.

I have some small Stans as well and I threw em into baskets with spag (just like all my other Stans, Gongoras, etc) right away. I dont think its absolutely neccessary to do so until they are blooming size though. I just like to repot! I grow my nigroviolacea fairly bright (Catt conditions) and its growing like a weed. I dont know if that will work for you though, Id hate to recommend conditions for someone else that TOTALLY goes against what all conventional Stan growers say (ie. Phal or shady light conditions). It works for me though!! I should also mention that my nigroviolacea was a NBS seedling, so its a lot more tough than a small seedling.
