From what I remember from when I got the plant, it should flower (or not) first, and then drop the leaves.

This thread is fantastic, I have a question about this orchid's dormancy period. Mine is currently dormant, should I place it in sun (back in its growing area) or in a dark location. Right now it's tucked away in a dark corner with barely any sunlight touching it.

I think it's fine to keep it in a brightly lit area. I think the most important thing is to limit how much water it gets.

The thread.... LIVES!!!!!!
Here's an update, ~6 years later.
The Monn. is waking up from winter, with 3 new growths coming up. I've separated them into 3 pots to make things more manageable. Still waiting for a bit more growth to finish potting; no media/watering for now. The more difficult to see buds are circled in blue.
Also related, I've heard that you can make dormant back-bulbs to send out new growth -- is this true? |

looking good.
Back bulb culture is possible in a lot of genus, i know dendrobiums for sure...i have never done it with these guys but i would imagine it is possible. if there are unactivated eyes, they can be woken up.
I have often thought about trying something like that with Keiki paste.
