Kawamoto may still have some for a decent price. Mine came double spike. I paid 24? I think plus shipping and it came with one spike broken. But these shots are of the surviving blooms. This plant is very hardy. It was my first catasetum I now have 4 possibly 5 if I win a bid. They are truly a unique flower, and a truly unique species as a whole. They shoot pollen at you. Bumped mine the other day picking up dead blossoms and damn near came unglued when something popped and hit my arm!!!

Also be careful apperently the um darker flowrrs are severely expensive!! Whew we are talking...100 up. I think it is called a frederick after dark SVO black pearl, resembles this but is much more shiny and blooms are shaped different.

@nlm

1. seller: Kawamoto? Wonderful seller,

2. Stop watering and feeding once all leaves fall off. (this is called winter rest) place it in a warm BRIGHT area and here is the biggest thing DO NOT WATER UNTIL YOU SEE NEW GROWTH. It is very very very hard trust me. I feel the need to water it so bad. But until you see new growth/new roots 3-5 @ 3-5 inches you do not water. This will kill the plant.

AN EXCEPTION IS: some OB members have stated that that catasetum in the past did not go into winter rest. for that I am not so sure. I do have a small one that I feel will not hit sleep mode this year because it still seems to be actively growing.

The phulb will hold enough energy until it begins new growth. Mine has been in sleep mode about 2 weeks now and....I noticed today....2 new growths at the base of the phulb!!! WAHOO

Once the new roots/growths develop a good length begin to slowly water again, and change it to fresh media.

do not be surprised if leaves do begin dropping while still in spike that is okay mine started to drop about this point where you are at.

Whatever you use for your Catts should work fine.
