Catasetum sanguineum
I received this plant from the Venezuelan breeder Alexis Pardo Isla, when he visited our exhibition for a speech. Unlike more colourful clones this plant misses the eponymic chestnut-coloured lip (sanguis = Latin for blood). In normal bright sunlight the various shades of green give ease to the rigid upright flower stem. The flashlight photography lacks the transparency of sepals against the dark green hood. I was waiting for the sun, but the fog was too strong within the last days.
A forma viride = green variety is described and I don't know if this plant matches the description.
Alexis liked upright flower stems in Catasetums and so he made several crosses with sanguineum.
Typical is also a strong chemical fragrance. Male flowers of course.
