Okay, I am not sure what it is about Catasetum's, but I am finding myself to be addicted to them and finding versions of them. I have a:
1. Monnierara Millennium Magic "Witchcraft" (in spike)
2. Catasetum Frilly Doris (in spike)
3. I am bidding on a CATASETUM MESTIZOS (in spike)
Whew okay I am feeling better now.
I have looked into them, but the shipping cost is not to bueno for me to get them all the way here from Texas or I would be all over it. Their prices were almost comparable to that of Carter and Holmes shipping costs and C&H is closer to me even. YEESH
The after dark black pearl is completely worth it, course I'm a sucker for any black flowers. Still feels weird when I just ignore them for like four months.
I know my.witchcraft is close to blooming but only has 2 leaves left. Lol. My Frilly Doris has just now started a spike so I am not sure when it will go into rest lol. Its spike is a tiny tiny little thing.
For a more local source of Catasetinae, try Stephen Moffitt. He's a great guy and mainly sells divisions of blooming size plants. Here's his website: About Catasetinae.com
I got my first orchid in the catasetum family. I like it but the flowers do not last very long at all. That is a one big issue for me with this group, but I still want to get the nearly black one and the wine colored ones. can't remember the names off memory, but those flowers look stunning!!!
