Catasetum Nimrod (sanguineum x incurvum)
The powerful, mighty, strong and eventually diabolic ruler of ancient Ninive and husband of Semiramis inspired me to name this hybrid Nimrod.
Pod parent is sanguineum, which inherits upright flower stems. Pollen came from the type plant of trautmanni, that turned out to be incurvum. Vigorous growth. Not a beauty, but a cross with a dominant character.

It may not be 'beautiful' to some, but it is striking and totally awesome to me, and very aptly named. Bravo!!.

Quite an interesting flower.
I found the name history lesson interesting too. Don't know if it is just here in the US, but "nimrod" is generally an insulting term with the connotation of the person in question being an idiot.

Photos are taken with a Nikon D5100 and AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm. The background is black non-reflecting textile tissue. I used flashlight and later enhanced the contrast to make colours more brilliant and vivid.
Here the name of Nimrod is used in different contexts. It is the trading name of a fungicide containing Bupirimate.
It is a reconnaisance aircraft of the British Royal Air Force.
But first and foremost he is an king and hero in ancient oriental history, mentioned in the Tanach, Bible and Koran.
The insulting connotation is completely unknown here.
