Stanhopea platyceras
Coming from the Pacific side of southern Colombia, this Stanhopea has one of the most spectacular huge flowers I've seen. Sadly they open for only two days, and they emit a sweet intoxicating fragrance of chemical solvent.
There was a third bud, but it dried as the other two buds matured, forming big balls and blasted. I have indeed never seen a photo of a platyceras with more than two flowers per stem.
It is a plant with huge leaves, that loves humidity and moderate light. Flowers are getting darker as they age. Pics were taken shortly after buds opened.
Luckily photos are a lasting pleasure, I took a few.
