Default Stanhopea haselowiana

I had an opportunity to see S. haselowiana in bloom for the first time when I visited Andy's Orchids the other day. I was so excited to see this orchid in bloom I just had to share it with you all. The purple spots and patterning make me appreciate the flowers even more. The fragrance is a bit like a lily mixed with a petroleum byproduct - not unpleasant, but light. Andy always seems to have more of the rare species just literally hanging around!

I have always wanted to see a haselowiana flower with my own eyes since a read a decription of this species some 25 years ago.
In this spring I had the opportunity to purchase a plant, and it is spiking now. I don't know if I'll see the flowers because I am away for holidays.
Your pictures confirm how great and floriferous Stanhopea haselowiana is.

Somehow a piece did find its way home with me. Now let's see if I can re-bloom it next year!

I hate when that happens with Stanhopea! Mine often bloom when I am away on vacation too. I guess that is the downside of growing orchids that only bloom for a few days out of the year. You will really like your S. haselowiana in full bloom. Good Growing!
