Default Stanhopea Ronsard?

This orchid is a rescue from a friend who did not want to take care of the plant any longer. It was in bad shape and the pseudobulbs were severely shriveled. I began to water and fertilize it and within weeks it started a new inflorescence. The tag says that it is S. Assidensis from Oak Hill Gardens. I was expecting a flower that would be white and cream with red streaks because the cross is (S. tigrina x S. wardii). However, when the flowers opened it appears to be much closer to S. Ronsard (S. wardii x S. oculata). The flowers have the narrow curved horns and two large spots at the base of the petals like S.oculata. It also has numerous small spots on the petals and sepals like S. wardii.

Any input people have would be appreciated!

It looks like Ronsard to me, Bob. I have one that also came from Oak Hill and the flowers are nearly identical to yours. The fine spots are, I think, attributable to the occulata parent, where Assidensis has flowers that appear much more tigrina-like, with dark blotches that are highly prominent. The scent of the two hybrids is also different. Ronsard's blooms have a (to me) sweeter scent, with a degree of vanilla fragrance. The scent of Assidensis's blooms are (again, to my nose) more medicinal--still decent, but not nearly as sweet as those of Ronsard. Either way, they're both good hybrids.

Thanks Gwallogwyn and Steve. I think with your input this seems likely a S. Ronsard hybrid. After some better care when it blooms next year, the inflorescence will hopefully look more like yours G.
