Stanhopea ruckeri
Formerly Stanhopea inodora, this one is quite fragrant (so perhaps it's good that the old name is no longer valid). The first of seven spikes opened this morning, but I could still smell the wonderful cinnamon scent when I got home late this afternoon.

Beautiful!! 7 spikes wow, and a lovely fragrance. I just ordered Stan saccata and nigripes from CloudsOrchids both are supposed to have a similar scent to this. I just love these flowers remind me of paper cranes for some reason.

Green? There's green in the blooms? This is (shouldn't come as a surprise) the primary drawback about being colorblind. :-) |

Just a slight minty wash on the petals and sepals. The little speckles look greyish and the dark spots near the centres of the flower are red. Because they are surrounded by yellow (can you see yellow?) they look like blood spots in an egg yolk, or how it looks when you use too much yellow food colouring.
Not sure how useful any of that is!

I can see yellow, yes. Greens, browns and reds are what give me trouble. I thought the flowers were a creamy white. Thank you for the description, and the links.

Steve, I really like this species and you have done a great job growing it. Congrats on the 7 spikes! The alba form of this is suppose to have ice green/blue on the column and sepals but mine has refused to bloom  . Perhaps this will be the year.
This is a photo from Gwallogwyn's post last year of the alba form. Nice subtle greens in there too!

Thanks for reposting Gwallogwyn's phto, Bob. I can actually see some green in it too! Hopefully your plant will bloom soon so we can compare photos.
