Catasetum xtapiriceps Male
Default Catasetum xtapiriceps

A natural hybrid between Ctsm. pileatum and Ctsm. macrocarpum occuring in Venezuela, sometimes considered a synonym to Ctsm. xsplendens. Flowers are just opening. This plant is more to the side of Ctsm. pileatum.

nice!
but ctsm splendens are crosses between macrocarpum and imperiale. since imperiale is seperated from pileatum, does that means that ctsm splendens is no longer synonym with tapiriceps?

Thanks to all and a special hello to Ian.
I am aware that on this board there are experts who dived deep into this matter. We have had the tapiriceps / splendens discussion for six years, for example
http://www.orchidboard.com/community...m-stumped.html
We have also had posts of really beautiful flowers of this complex here. Knowing the difficulties I wrote cautiously that xtapiriceps is sometimes / by some people regarded as a synonym to xsplendens. My mentioning might also be helpful for people who use a search engine.
In the vast hybrid swarms in nature hybrids might be crossed back and forth, who knows.
I suppose that the difference between both depends more, if you go along with Reichenbach fil. or with Cogniaux and the colourful illustration in Lindenia and its many varieties.
