its a fairly easy plant to grow. grow on the cool side, in winter no lower than 10 C, no dry rest periods, its potted in wire basket lined with sphagnum and perlite. fertilize lightly in spring and summer. once grower mature, just water as often to just to keep the sphagnum moist. Flower spikes start to appear in Jan/Feb--so take care not to break them. No direct sunlight.

Cool grower - too bad for me. We saw a bunch of Acinetas at the WOC in Miami in 2008. They're beautiful, but I've always been afraid they would melt in our summer heat. Thanks for the information.

the plant smells medicinal...its overall pleasant, it gets stronger on warmer weather. the flowers last about 3-4 weeks, so beats the Stanhopea cousins.

Wow, 3-4 weeks??? When I get room for Stanhopinae again, I'll have to grab some Acineta. I didn't know they lasted so long. |
