Catasetum Expansum vessel with green algae
Default Catasetum Expansum vessel with green algae

Gday,

I currently have some Catasetum Expansum seeds in cultivation. Im not sure what to expect in regards to germination time etc but just within the last 2 days I have had a very strange run in with what appears to be ALGAE.

Can anyone confirm if this has happened to them? I have about 60 different Orchid varieties in cultivation and this is a first. To date I can proudly say that out of 300 or so culture vessels I have had only 2 with contamination.

I have 4 other vessels with the same seed, sowed the same day and no issues. This does not appear to be the "actual" seed germinating, its more a thin layer. It also does not appear to be bacteria as such.

If someone could help explain what it is in the vessel or point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Cody

I wish I could help you with this. Looks like algae to me though.
