Ok so finally it has opened!

It is a truly weird and amazing plant. You don't really know which way to look at the flowers being that they're upside down.

Here's some snaps.

That is a very nice S. tigrina Brad. It may have a bit of S. wardii in the background, but the horns and lip are a bit large for it to be the hybrid S. assidensis (S. tigrina x S. wardii) in my opinion. It was definitely worth the wait. It should smell good too. This is a great start to your Stanhopea season in Australia. Keep up the great growing!

Thanks!

I was guessing that it was a S. tigrina or similar but I was just waiting for it to flower to be sure.

The scent is very sweet at the moment but I can't wait to smell it in the morning. I also have some maxillaria tenufolia flowering at the moment which smells amazing. (The little inconspicuous flowers have lasted nearly 2 months!)

I also have 2 more stanhopea , 1 in spike and another that I'm desperately waiting to flower (it was my very first orchid)

Wow, good job with the Stanhopea! Someday I'm going to try one of those, when i figure out where I can grow something like that!
