My Crazy Catasetum
Well, I guess it's crazy in a good way. I've been growing this plant for 3 or 4 years and as always it has a mind of it's own. This year it has 3 spikes originating from a single bulb. Two of the spikes have bloomed. One spike has all female blooms and the other spike bloomed hermorphaditic with the exception of a single male blossom. Male blooms from this variety have a distinctive minty fragrance. Enjoy. Catasetum pileatum 'Oro Verde' - a set on Flickr

That is so cool -- you can enjoy three different flowers on one single plant! One more reason I should get more catasetums.

Thanks everyone.
This plant produced hermophroditic and female blooms last year but each sex was growing individually from two separate spikes. This year it mixed things up a little and surprised me. There is a third spike growing from the same bulb. It has small developing buds. At the moment they look male, but with this plant first impressions are often deceiving.

I love it! Orchids are so crazy compared to most of my other plants!
