If you put it in a dark place...you will likely never see new growth. It requires dormancy in order to thrive but that dormancy does not include a lack of light.
You do reduce water in the Fall and then stop completely once the leaves drop...but keep it in a well lit area. Most of these plants appreciate Catt level light and while they don't need the super high level during dormancy...they still need light.
Once dormant...keep an eye on the pbulbs...if the newest (last season's) begins to get shriveled you will want to give it a bit of water. If this happens, I will set the pot in a shallow tray of water and let it absorb it from the bottom up.
Orchideya - They are not hard to grow...you just have to understand that they have 2 distinct seasons. Pay attention to those seasons and you have a plant that is relatively easy to grow. Here's a link to Fred's (Sunset Valley) culture notes...he is a Ctsm expert...
