Catasetum pileatum var imperale 'Live Oak' HCC/AOS X Catasetum John C. Burchett 'Ursa Major' FCC/AOS

This is one of several SVO Catasetinae that I acquired three years ago given to me by a friend who happened to visit the farm.
I did not re-pot on the first year but waited until it outgrew and got a one size bigger pot.
I have this hanging for air circulation and only put in planters if in bloom.
I inherited this on sphagnum moss so I continued to do so and didn’t change media. I just mastered the skewer method.
This gets light on the east facing window with the Cattleya with constant 80% humidity and warm room temps especially in winter.
I give it proper rest period.
I stop fertilizer and water only every other week around mid-November and stop watering by the 1st of January.
After its rest, as the new growth develops: I do not water until the new roots are well developed to about 3 to 5” long. (Don’t be in a hurry to water, it is better to wait); and then water and fertilizer must be constant while the plants are in active growth in the warmer months.

Very nice and great job growing. These guys are a little tricky but the bloom is sure worth it.

very nice!!! my boss just gave me a Ctsm. pileatum var imperiale 'imperial' x 'pierrie couret' as a gift, any tips for growing? he basically said grow it like a catt until it loses its leaves, forget about it, then start watering once it starts growing.
