catasetum sanguineum
Default catasetum sanguineum

the male flower just bloomed today but this spike is quite different from other catasetum spike as the flower opens at different time and one will wither before the next one opens.

Cool! So the flower in the first pic is male or hermaphrodite?

in the first pic, the flower on the left of the pic is the hermaphrodite and while the one on the right showing only the top of the labellum is the male flower.
i included here a pic of the flower at full bloom, and i am receiving second opinion this may be ctsm naso.
any second opinions are welcome.

Ok, that's what I was thinking, but I just wanted to confirm.

The fully opened male flower looks really nice too!

Ian - it does look more like naso than sanguineum but if you look at the spread of the dorsal sepal and the petals, I really think that you have a hybrid on your hands.

i notice the spread of the petals, but i will wait for the next spike coz this spike initially with female bud, only the last one is the 'male' flower. the reason i would wait for the next spike is because i suspected this male flower is with male labellum but petals and sepals are female (due to the light coloration)
lets see what pop out from the bud in the next season. thanks
