Default Mormodes lawrenceana and Mormodes paraensis

These two beauties are currently in bloom at my place... M. lawrenceana is a reliable bloomer with a great fragrance...
M. paraensis is blooming for the first time for me. I was expecting the flowers would open more, but not sure for which reason the seem to stay pretty "closed"... However, since I have not seen this species in bloom before, I can not say whether this is normal or not for the species...

The lawrenceana are just beautiful. Pity about the flowers on the paraensis, you just have to get another with flowers that open up . There is a picture on IOSPE of a paraensis with the same "closed" flowers, so it might be "normal" for some of them to have flowers that are closed.

Ok, the Mormodes paraensis just seem to take ages to open the flowers... It started opening before the lawrenceana, but opened the flowers way after it...

Ramon - From past experience I have found that many Mormodes paraensis' dorsal sepal and petals don't open much more than they are in your last picture. On the other hand I have seen plants where the flowers are fully open. Only time will tell. Great species one way or the other.
