Cycnodes Golden Shower X Mormodes revoluta
This is a first time bloom for this plant. I was thrilled it gave me several blooms. My other plant in this genus only gave me one flower.
The form is a bit odd since it looks like the tip of the petals were eaten by bugs or have dried out tips...maybe I had the rest period too long; I should have watered it when the buds started showing on the spike.
Bright and cheerful colors and the texture and shapes of the flowers are delightful.
There is a large root coming out from the base of the spike. I dont know if this is just a fluke...maybe the flowers and spike will wither and die and this root might also follow suit; or maybe a new plant will appear.
I dont know if these are male or female flowers...

Bud - If I remember correctly, your other plant was Cycnoches chlorochilon 'Green X Yellow' which is not the same genus as this plant which is a Cycnodes a hybrid of Cycnoches and Mormodes. Your flowers are male but of course you will want to make sure yourself so all you have to do is remove the anther cap and see that there is pollinia there.

Such big flowers on such a small plant! Looks great!
Mormodes actually has perfect flowers, which means that they have both male and female parts on the same flowers, unlike many of the groups within the Catasetinae. This trait is carried on to the progeny of their hybrids, thus these flowers are 'perfect' as well. You should be able to 'self' this plant if you were so inclined, though doing that with such a young plant is not advisable.
As for the root at the bottom of the spike, don't worry about it. This group does that fairly often. Strange plants they are!

Steve beat me to it, but yes I agree. I see those superfluous roots on almost all of my Catasetinae spikes !! REALLY NICE color, Bud !!!
Steve, are you saying that all Cycnodes are perfect ??

Yes, as far as I know all Cycnodes flowers are perfect. Clowesia hybrids are similar in this respect.

Thank you guys for the wealth of infos...
Glen...thats correct; the difference of the Cycnoches and Cycnodes was discussed by Philip the King of Orchid growing on that thread...I will not dare remove an anther cap unless I have seen someone on video or live doing it...Id waste the flower for nothing
Steve...Thank You very much for the information: I havent got a clue how to do a "self" so its not happenning even in the near future...
Chryss...thanks for your input...I really do appreciate it. So, this is your favorite alliance? then FYI: I have two kinds in rest period and two kinds growing five inches of keiki...so I might have blooms this summer...I was given four different plants of this alliance when I bought two from that hybrider I bought my first plant from...

If you don't mind me asking, who was the hybridizer ? Sounds like a good deal, 6 for the price of 2 !!! Or did you mean 4 for 2 ? Either way !!!
