Clowesia Rebecca Northen 'Grapefruit Pink'

Are they easy growers? And what type of conditions do they like?

I'm new to growing them, but read a lot about it. They prefer warm temp.
They are easy growers as long as you respect their cycle (general for catasetinae) :
lots of water and fert. during growing period, less water and no fert. in automn when leaves start turning yellow and fall. No water when leaves are gone, until next growths are starting.
They are winter bloomers (Clowesia rosea and hybrids from it at least_)

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that Clowesia was in the Catasetinae. I'm a bit familiar with the culture of them, I did some research on it since I was thinking of getting a Catasetum in the spring. I think I need to track down a Clowesia instead!

I got a Clowesia Rebecca Northen 'Grapefruit Pink' x Catasetum Mark Dimmitt 'Ed Wise' as a door prize at my local orchid society back in November. It's my first plant from this alliance.

This is the other parent for mine.


Can't wait to see what I looks like when it decides to bloom.

If you are looking for some, start early... they are hard to find. I know a seller in the UK who sells for Jumbo Orchids (based in Taiwan) and he has a ebay store.
The easiest Clowesia to find in Europe are the hybrids like Jumbo Grace, Grace Dunn, and Rebecca Northen, the later is harder to find.
I'm sure if you contact Ramon (Kavanaru) he could help you find some catasetinae

Jim, I hope you will see your plant bloom this year.
I am not a big fan of most of the Clowesetum I have seen in pictures, aside a few like Jumbo Circle and Jumbo Polar.
There are so any crosses in this alliance, you can always find something you like!

I found a Grace Dunn!! Yang's Orchids imported some from Taiwan. Probably the grower you are referring to.

Nice one Camille ! Yes indeed Yang is the seller I was referring to. A friend of mine got a few cata. from him recently and was happy with them. And I got some shipped over to my parents in France... they will wait for me until my next trip
