Hi Steve! Yes, the perfume is identical to the "traditional" Stan tigrina, perhaps even stronger! Dave, did you notice well, my environment is almost always very humid, which may explain (at least in part) my relative success with Stanhopea (and my relative failure with some other genera...)

Hello, fellow orchid grower;
I have two small divisions of same clone of Stanhopea tigrina that are peloric. The third time it bloomed I set a couple of pods by self-pollination of the plant. I sent a ripe pod out for flasking, and let one split onto old damp media to see if any protocorms would develop the "natural" way.
The plants are able to bloom when quite small, and have good color.

Hello, Frederico;
It has been about 3 years since I obtained a peloric Stanhopea tigrina (marked S. tigrina violacea) from Mark Pendleton at Brookside Orchids. I know that he sold divisions (5 to Doug Pulley and one to another commercial grower) to others, but mine has produced 4 or 5 inflorescences already from a very small division. I could send you a photo for comparison, I guess. My question to you is, did you sell a division of this to him or to somebody else who could have sold a quite large plant (20-30 pseudobulbs) to him? If this is a totally different plant, then it would make sense to make an outcrossing, to try to make a deliberately peloric line. The peloric plant that I have bloomed well with outdoors growth in Redwood City Emerald Hills (near San Francisco, California). So, although we have about 75 plantlets in flask at the moment from the last selfing, an outcross would be more interesting, still, and also perhaps have a market large enough to pay for the bother of raising the plantlets. What do you think?

Fred hasn't been active on OB for a while, so I don't know if he will answer your question.

Another peloric Stanhopea tigrina
Here's another peloric Stanhopea tigrina. It's bloomed the same way for 4-5 years, so it appears to be stable. The only real defect is that the foliage is a bit "wonky", it looks crumpled - could be culture, but the "normal" clones growing nearby don't show the problem.

Isirus79;
Hello, and I hope that the reason that Frederico has not been active is not related to his health.
A local Brazilian friend of mine has said that he knew somebody in Brazil who also had a peloric Stanhopea, so that person might be Fred. I was advised that I should expect to hear from this party, but have not.
Since then, Troy Meyers advised me that there are about 225 seedlings in flask expected to be available from a selfing of my peloric Stanhopea tigrina. This was not a one-shot wonder, for out of 4 or 5 inflorescences, all have had peloric blooms.
Other peloric Stanhopeas I know of include the original Quirky Queen by Doug Pulley, and Sherwood's Folly, by Troy Meyers.
If you know Stanhopea species collectors in your area, I could be interested in speaking to them or otherwise corresponding. Most of my plants are in a recovery phase after moving and drying very badly (lost a few), but the new small greenhouse is now getting automated, and we should be able to travel again without losing plants.
Do you have any specialty in type of orchids?
Best regards,
Paul Reeve
