I just changed the label and it now reads (Cyc. warczewitzii X ??) until I get a response from the vendor. It's definitely a keeper even if an orphan ! I like it BETTER than the warczewitzii specie !!!

That is just too weird for words !!!! I just searched RHS and came up with 3 different spellings !

You're right, under warczewitzii there's only Clowesia.

BUT under warscewiczii we have; Catasetum, Cattleya, Cycnoches, Miltonia, Miltonioides, and Miltoniopsis.

Then there is warszewiczii; there is Brassia, Mormodes, and Phragmipedium.

To beat that don't go to wikipedia or you'll find everything pretty much lumped under the last spelling !!! I think I'll go take some Tylenol now !!!!

What gets me is that it is most likely a very famous person's name who was involved with a lot of these orchids and I don't imagine that he spelled his name 3 different ways !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That REALLY IRKS ME !!!

FYI, I just searched it out and Josef Warscewicz is the man of the 1800's who a lot of orchids are named after. IMHO, the other 2 spellings are registered misspelling mistakes !!! Oh, and the proper pronunciation is when you pronounce each 'w' like a 'v' !!! Try that one, it's a tongue twister !

What you have here are female flowers. Cycnoches is the correct genus, Clowesia warscewiczii is a small cupped pale green striped flower.
It looks very similar to a Cyc. warscewiczii female flower.

Now that's a thought nobody else mentioned ! Thanks, Laura ! I'm taking it in to our NCOS meet today and will talk to a few judges there and see what they say. If that's true, it could still be Jumbo Puff, but its female form ! Either way, it's a keeper for me !!!

The jury is still out on this one, I'll find out more at tonight's meeting with AOS judges present ! Mine posted on this thread in the beginning is either a Cycnodes, a Cycnoches warscewiczii specie, or a female Jumbo Puff. I'm far from an expert but your lip is different from kavanaru's Jumbo Puff and my "other" Jumbo Puff (in this thread). Check his link and you'll see that his lip and the one on my "other" JP are similar with a pointed end, and your is different with a flat end. That's a point of identification but I'm not the one to decipher it !

my apologies to contradict you Laura, but these ara not female cycnoches flowers.. this is 100% Cycnodes.

Cycnoches flowers (female and male) has non-resupinate flowers. While Cycnodes commonly inherit this character from the Mormodes, as it is the case of the flowers shown in this thread, and which are typical cycnodes flowers...

as I mentionned, Cycnodes Jumpo Puffcan have different lip depending on whether it was done with Cyc. chlorochilon or Cyc. warscewiczii (long story made short, still a lot of people cannot make the different between both species!). Furthermore, female (very selten) and male (very common) flowers of Cycnodes are almost identical.. the difference is in the column, as it is the case in Mormodes...

I wasn't very clear in my previous post...What I should have said was...
1. I think they are female flowers.
2. I was correcting Msaar's post above stating that it was Clowesia warscewiczii, my intent was to say that it was Cycnoches warscewiczii that was used to make Jumbo Puff.
3. I was not disputing that this was or possibly could a a Cycnodes! (Just noting that it looked similar to Cyc. warscewiczii from a photo on AQ+ of an awarded female flower.)
I didn't mean to upset the apple cart, just thought I'd mention that they might be female flowers...

Thanks for your patience, Ramon, dealing with me and the others. I realized it wasn't a female when I looked and saw the cap (?) that covers the pollinia. Did you see the pix 2 posts before your last one from Jim Blanford ? What does the flat edge on his lip tell you vs. the pointed one on Jumbo Puff by TogeGoreng and on my "other" Jumbo Puff ??
