Default Coryanthes in low temperatures

Hello,
does anyone have experience on cultivating Coryanthes species in a cool winter temps (minimum night tē 13- 15 ēC, 10-22ēC daytime)? I have C. speciosa and
C. leucocorys and don't thrive in such conditions. They try to grow but the newshoots grow very slowly until finally the rot appears.
Any help and advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Mitch,
I know this information, and know that they are warm growers, but I wonder if anyone knows if they are adaptable to cooler temperatures.
However, thanks for your replay.

At the moment i have two Coryanthes with buds and they are growing at a "normal" speed. The day temp is about 18C ,at night it goes down to about 10C.
The buds seem ok for the time being, but i am not certain if it will be too cold for them. I am very careful when i water them so only the roots are moist, new shoots are growing as expected.
I cant afford to heat my growing area as much as i would like this winther, but hopefylly i will see some flowers in a few weeks.
( I also have a lot of Vandas and Catasetinas in the same area and i have five Vandas in bloom and buds on three of my Catasetinas )

Considering most of them are warm growers, it is a good new for me. Do you control the ph of the substrate? It seems to be an important parameter for success.
Thank you!

I have not measured the Ph.
All my Coryanthes are mounted in baskets with sphagnum and i have about 10 different plants at the moment. All of them seems to be ok.

Last night it was very cold here and one of my Coryanthesbuds was on the floor when i checked my orchids this morning. It went down to about 9C i my growing area and that was to low .
I still have another Coryanthes with buds and its hanging in a little warmer place, so hopefully that bud will be ok.

Hi drosera and ingse .

Your above posts were written in November, and now it is January and it is cold in Europe - what is the condition of your Coryanthes plants now, any news ?

Most Coryanthes plants should be cultivated at not lower than 20°C ...
Have you been able to 'beat' this rule by cultivating your plants successfully at lower temperatures ?

Regards , Manfred.

All of my Coryanthes seems ok, and they are growing. The weather here this winter has been unusual. Last year it was under -20C at this time, now its +2C and the coldest temp. this winter has been only -6C.
The flowers on my C. verrucolineata only lasted four days and i do not think they developed as they should have, but i had flowers 18 december

Hello,
my Coryanthes (speciosa and macrocorys) don' t show any sign of growing. Now, my night tēs are arround 14ēC. I don't know if they are resting..., or dying ! The plants are unhealty, and they've lost some leaves.
I check the baker's cultural requirements for this sp. and C. macrocorys is a cool grower in a Coryanthes world (night tē 12-15 ēC).

Regards
Arnau
