Default Cycnodes Wine Delight (retired)?

uhh ummmm well It has no leaves and 3 dried out canes. I felt it was time to go under the bench for the winter.
The older cane is spiking now..no leaves, no light, no water, no nothing since late august. Should I bring the plant back out or just let it drain itself of all its reserves with the last spike for the season?

one more pic of the plant since I aint got nothing else

the flowers are just beautiful but after I had this one in the house for about a month blooming, I do not like the smell. It was starting to give me a headache and making me not feel very good.

That one is a beauty, RJ. I have a Catasetum, not a cynoches and it gets just a little water every now and then to keep the bulbs from shriveling too much during dormancy. Some growers remove them from their pots during rest. During rest my plant is still exposed to light, just not as much.

RJ, since it's giving you a headache, I'd be more than happy to take it from you, lol...

RJ - Mine is in bud right now, probably to open in the next week or so. Since this is my first time blooming this plant, what does it actually smell like? (so I can be prepared!).

very sweet initially, then with a biting antiseptic twinge that gets right into the top of your nasal cavity at the primal base of the olfactory nerve, reminiscence of eucalyptus oil or mentholatum

you want to smell it as its nature is very elusive and then you overdose the scent into a migraine

It's like when a "street lady" walks into an elevator full of people. The fragrance is strong and enticing but after a floor or two you just can't wait to get out of the elevator !!!

It looks very nice! Do you have any pics of the bulbs? Sometimes they need a bit of water during dormancy, especially when its been this hot.

RJ - Why did you stop watering in August? My plants are still going gangbusters, I don't stop watering until mid December. As to the smell, for me at least, it starts out smelling like a very sweet cherry coolaid and then you are right it does get to be very overpowering, to the point that I have to remove it from the greenhouse if I plan on being in there for any amount of time.

I was taught to follow the leaves. As they start to turn, I reduce the water and don't stop until all the leaves have dropped off. Some times they never do or a new growth fully leafs out before the older one drops so I don't stop the water ! I don't do anything by a schedule per se, I follow each plant individually.
