Catasetum schmidtianum
Have had this guy for a few years, was never really impressed with it's color. I think I have changed my mind this year. It's color is better than alot that I have seen, it sure took it's time to get there.

It was a backbulb rescue from a friend's plant that had fusarium wilt. Not sure where the original plant came from. I was able to save about 2 inches of the bulb and the next spring it sent up 2 new growths. This year it went crazy, sent up 3 new gowths with a total of nine spikes, all at different stages. It has been in bloom on and off for the last 3 months and still has 3 spikes to go. Hoping to get at least one spike to judging.

There were 5 flowers on this spike, there were 10 on the first spike of the season.

It has multiple bulbs and each puts out a minimum of 2, not always at the same time so the bloom season is extended over several summer months.
