Gongora armeniaca in bloom
Got this 2 years ago, it bloomed with 3 spikes. This year it has seven. I think this is one I will grow on to specimen size.

When I bought this one, I was told it was the red variation, doesn't look red to me. lol I can't complain too much, I do like the color. But I still want a red.

WOW, impressive. I just purchased a Gongora and am curious about it's flower spike habits. It appears from your photographs that it may come through the medium a bit and though slotted pots like baskets and such.
How do you pot yours?
Do the flower stalks go across the top of the medium or come out from below/sides?
You are making me very anxious to see mine bloom, hopefully next year, lol...

Paul - Gongoras as a rule will send out their spikes along the top of the medium and make it over the lip of the pot. They will sometimes get caught up if you plant low in the pot, the spike will sometimes go down instead of up and over the lip. Here in Florida I plant them in sphagnum in plastic net pots so as not to have that problem and to allow them to dry a little bit faster. I've attached more photos so you can see how one spike decided to go down in the medium and was able to come out the side of the net pot and how the othes all made their way over the lip.

Okay I am totally embarrassed, went in the greenhouse today, with my glasses on and realized that I read the wrong tag when I posted this thread. As nice as this Gongora is, it is not galeata, it is Gongora armeniaca. Sorry if there was any confusion.
